HALF-HALE & HARDY, yet

April 17, 2019

“The thick leaves in my murmur/ Are rustling like a dream/ And all their myriad voices/ Instinct with spirit seem”        Emily Bronte, from “The Night Wind”

I’m half-Hale & a Hardy old man.

Yet I have one world  of failings,

Yet  universal   ‘elan.

.

The endgame  is a sight closer

I can only see it  now

Like the woods across the street, Close,

Like one worn path for the woods.

tree

T R E E

There’s a tree in this stretch of barren hell

It has Beauty  and surely shade

I’ll sit and see how far I’ve come

I’ll look off to  somewhere I’ll die

QUILTLESS WONDER

January 31, 2019

Will a quilt that drapes,

Dramatically,  one  wicker

Adirondack  chair,

Drape  me?

.

.

Will a qualified straight-shooter, finally,

Dramatically, shooting his or her mouth off,

Try  to  be  fair,

Capturing   me?

“THEORETICALLY”

January 30, 2019

“This  ole  sot

Theoretically  is   empty,”  he went,

“Momentarily  anyways.”

Faces death, & all that rot,

Not to say, not so long before  he’s meant.

He sifts scenery…all Regret.

But m’Lord of Mercy. .That scent!

“More of whatcha  got,”

Forwarding his fine glass there,

“Don’t stop  just yet.”

WORST BEDTIME STORY EVER

January 21, 2019

If   he’s  truly  gone

He fell from a tree

Night-vision just finally darkened black

That might happen, if  it’s  true,

When he would move forward to a new branch

.

I found an opossum  on my lawn

& if he’s truly gone

His  odd  defense

Odd  Lazarus  gifts

Of cessation, resurrection.

Odd mask of death  did drop?

We’d ask if his time was up.

Give  him  a  kick

“Wake  up”

“Those bells’ve been ringing now for years/Someday I’ll give it all away/That’s how you sing Amazing Grace” -LOW, from “Amazing Grace”

As specified in final arrangements
The kids could only draw near enough
To Temples, & to what resembles Temples,
To take big pictures, big sky country shots,
& pot shots,
For a faraway featuring of folly.
.
.
.
Go down always face down the hall,
This dawn displays holy sun rays smoke
And on the just rightly out of tune upright bass
My at rest in peace bare-chested Daddy
Just barely jazzin up most all of a
New England Protestant hymnal
Ones his mother, Grace
Sang through softly over & over
Busy at her own handiwork as ever

SEASIDE OUTLOOK BENCHES, SEARCHING THE STRAIGHT SEA

Down near  out of waiting, or out of lord’s luck

Down on their seaside outlook benches

Grown  men  searching

Aim down for sombre storming

Strict on the straight sea

“Comfort me”/ “Come for me”

& Sure more  in ecclesiastical clenches

& More  in a chimerical clutch

Love’s  fanciful  watch

EDGY ARTIST SELL

September 8, 2017

Peter Sellers (9/8/1925-7/24/1980)

.

.

I heard a ways back/that the actor Peter Sellers/stormed off a set/(a clunker cliche’/”stormed” as a verb)/That Sellers acted up, disturbed/by all that was wrong when a man in the crew/

wore green and purple.

Sellers balked at doing the scene and walked off/quite mad./Purple and green./An omen of death,I guess/not for you/

Edgy artist/Peter felt put out enough about it/the stuperstition thing/to blurt it/stand by it/insistassuming others to buy it.

Stuperstitious/I’m edgy/it just doesn’t hurt./Tonight I wear my purple tee shirt/The one I sport under my sportjacket For and at my favorite Art concerts/ My sisters…/

my snug Mr Greenjeans, and Airwalks are on/I ride on a stride so fucking strong/

soundsynch on my full ON! phone/

juju mon/ Rajiohead/ Could carry me dead on.

OF FINAL NIGHTS

July 16, 2017

The taste of  spray,

Back splayed against the lighthouse wall,

Is saltier/ The roar of  final nights

Saddled on sea wall gusts

Is Fiercer/ When strength one requires

To withstand and understand  such threats

Is steadier/ The beacon’s cliff path

Is grounds for  light/

OK  I hate that “soulmate” is a fowl cultural cliche’

But it likely could be lifeblood, & have a saving Grace,

But  a  burndon

when things go wrong

And one  one can barely live with

A burndon  one can hardly lay with,

Stay with   when things go wrong

When a soulmate might come  to separate some

Then a burndon  might act up some

might oh might

Just combust some
