.

I’m fine with pining for  somewhere else

But I’ve not got a trace of sense

To embrace the opened-present tense

I’ll see my way to Calliopes call

The lines seem too long, too wide, an’ all

DREAMLAND boasts  “the most creative rides”,

So Go!

.

There I take my place.

Stare off into space.

OLD FACADES

December 26, 2019

.

West, we rode & wrested away from…save the olde facades of Savannah.

When in Jesus-sodden Southern Georgia

Some sign solemn  told me “try him”,

I ran & ran that mantra by

& waited ’till my lips straightened.

.

Here, I take my sweet (& dear, fleeting) time

Rake up raw data…

.

I’m readyish I guess for you to take my order

AN OLD HAUNT

December 11, 2019

On our ancient porch
Perched high here in our new air
Search here through new words.
.

This latest launch on/
Off this roof porch, an old haunt.
I sing off this nest.

WORST BEDTIME STORY EVER

January 21, 2019

If   he’s  truly  gone

He fell from a tree

Night-vision just finally darkened black

That might happen, if  it’s  true,

When he would move forward to a new branch

.

I found an opossum  on my lawn

& if he’s truly gone

His  odd  defense

Odd  Lazarus  gifts

Of cessation, resurrection.

Odd mask of death  did drop?

We’d ask if his time was up.

Give  him  a  kick

“Wake  up”

NEW DEAL

September 2, 2018

If our fog lifts

Like tired old myths

The ones “old salts”

Sing about at seaside public vaults

Never locked  They’re never locked

It’s best. I better work this new deal

The wording has wounds, needs doctoring

How long will you allow me here?

If our fog lifts

My table and window will clear.

FAINT MISTS PAINT A MAZE

April 22, 2018

SALLYHAWKINS

“FAINT MISTS PAINT A MAZE”

is warranted as a title,

to be entitled, for a forward

to a body of work about:

highland trails, thorough haze,

brash dense brush, broken fences,

rainy bald boulders, wildflowers,

sunlight threads, down onto mosses,

log lichen, & mushrooms.

And as sea fog works so/ as a grey god’s cloaks,

far mountains peer over as   pe’res.

Clinky silver rivulets,

where waterbugs & yellow leaves

float off./  I can’t.  I’ve rolled off

those  fertile  sheets.   & down.

C A S K

April 6, 2018

There’s a cask of Chianti

With Leo Da Vinci

On the label like it took from a notebook

But my curiosity sought the imagery

My  thirst  might  evoke.

.

The cask stands upon a piano

Like a candle in the window

Not a word about the new chords

Almost heard in the darknesses, a solemn oath

Not a word about the new chords.

My god my marygold

You’ve had such a holy hold

On this old drifting imagined world

You’ve banged open the till

Abundant with bundles  apparent now

Inside this  2-lane roadside  joint

Trucks rocketing by

You’ve had such a holy hold on my

sprouting spouting spurting words of my own godly modern love/

My own heart murmuring/ my idleWild  chit chat/

My own head concurring nodding plodding plotting

“Don’t take this cup from me”.

I can ante up.

What I can bring to the table.

What I can ad lib/ to fib  my own fable.

Cain killed the Keeper of the Sheep

“Learn something  every day”

For most of it though  don’t go and lose sleep

Fragments On Lofty

June 23, 2017

It’s not been my story  to take inventory/

It’s  I can’t even   scare up  scant worry

About what I have, About what I would want/

I suppose  I could pose  but I can’t/

It’s  said/

“An  unexamined  life

Is  good  as  dead.”/

I said/

I’m a body afloat, solid thoughts go float too, y’know/

Lofty thoughts  not  caught  can ride

On both tides  High and low/

I’d deny having lied, but replied.
